Many people believe that you should wait until you’re officially no longer married before you start dating. Here is a new perspective: dating during divorce. We’re not saying you have to go as far as getting pregnant and practically re-engaged while still married (i.e.- Kim Kardashian), but dating, while you’re going through the divorce process, can be quite healthy.
Here are a few reasons that dating during the divorce or separation process might be right for you:
- You feel more positive: Dating will change your perspective. You’ll start to focus on the “what could be” of the future and not the “what could have been” of the past.
- You’ll relax more: The divorce process can put anyone under a ton of pressure. A good date should be relaxing and a lot of fun!
- Vulnerable: Dating may help you open up. You have a lot of pent up feelings and emotions, and it might be good to have someone new to talk to.
- Renewed Sex Life: Some people may be against this, but all evidence proves that a healthy sex life leads to a happy person. So if it’s sex you need, we suggest you start dating again.
That being said, there may be several reasons you shouldn’t date before the divorce is over: your kids may be upset, you might not be emotionally ready, you may need some alone time, etc.
So figure out what works for you. Every situation is different and everyone handles dating during/after a divorce or separation in a different manner.
