FEES & CONSULTATIONS

No two cases are alike, and, accordingly, no two fees are the same. We will do our best after an initial consultation to approximate how long your case could take and how much it might ultimately cost.

We will answer your questions and introduce you to our staffThe amount of time involved in a case can never be predicted with scientific precision, since there may be variables that cannot be anticipated. But during our initial consultation, we will make an honest effort to help you determine and anticipate the costs involved.

There is a $200 flat charge for the initial half-hour consultation with one of our lawyers. If the consultation lasts substantially more than a half hour, the additional time will be charged at the consulting attorney's rate. During the consultation, we will answer your questions and introduce our staff who, together with your lawyer, will assist you throughout your case.

Rates and Billing

Once we begin our representation, we charge hourly rates that vary among our personnel. Lawyers' rates vary from $350 to $425 an hour. Paralegals and support staff are billed at lower rates of $50 to $175 per hour depending on their experience level.

Before we begin representation, we require an initial retainer and a signed fee contract. The initial retainer depends on the case, but usually ranges from $6,500 to $15,000. We then bill our time against that retainer. If and when the retainer is close to being depleted, we may require an additional retainer if it appears the case has become more time consuming than initially anticipated. Of course, where it is appropriate, we will seek to have the other party reimburse you for your attorney's fees.

What to Bring to the Consultation

The first consultation is an overview. Your attorney will go into much more detail once you retain them and start your case. It’s important you bring certain documents to your first consultation. To help you prepare for your consultation, we’ve created a checklist of common documents a family law attorney may need to see. Click here to view and print the Divorce Document Checklist.
