Forensic Accountants

Divorce is probably the biggest financial transaction of your life. A good forensic accountant can help you make the important financial decisions that will color your future and may help you save court costs and attorney fees as well.

Forensic accountants apply their sophisticated financial and valuation theories
Forensic accountants apply their sophisticated financial and valuation theories to arrive at an opinion of economic damages, lost profits, or business value to create a cohesive financial picture from which a satisfactory settlement can be negotiated.

Often, this involves evaluation of closely held businesses, determination of the true income of the owner spouse, tax analyses for alimony, child support, and equitable distribution. We also focus on the valuation of the income and assets derived from employee compensation packages of publicly held corporations, including non-cash compensation, stock options, and phantom stock.
Although matrimonial litigation is often contentious and complicated, with the help of our experienced forensic accountants, Dishon & Block can mediate difficult financial issues avoiding protracted and expensive legal proceedings.

An accurate assessment and concise presentation of the financial positions of parties to the dispute is an integral element of any family law property settlement or estate litigation matter. To evaluate each case, we conduct the following:

  • Investigation of business structures to determine ownership and interest of the parties ;
  • Valuation of a business or entity in which one of the parties has an interest ;
  • Valuation of superannuation interests ;
  • Valuation of prospective inheritances ;
  • Quantification of income to assist in child support and/or spousal maintenance applications; and
  • Critique and analysis of other valuation reports.
